I read the classic Pomodoro Technique book and below are the actionable insights.

  1. You only have 1440 minutes per day. If you don’t focus and take control of time, you won’t take control of your work and life.
  2. The Pomodoro technique is a famous, research-based technique to manage time. The main idea is to divide up your time into 30-minutes chunk called “Pomodoros”. Within that 30-minutes, spend 25 minutes focussing on work (and avoid distractions at all cost), and 5-minutes on relaxing. And after every 2-hours (4 pomodoros), take a 30 minutes break.
  3. But more importantly, during your first Pomodoro, make a to-do list of things you want to accomplish in a priority order. And mark them as completed when they are done.
  4. Have a notebook to keep track of distractions (such as emails, Slack messages, etc) every time that happen.
  5. At the end of the day, review the tasks that are done and also review the things that distract you and try to do better the next day.

If you follow it correctly, in a typical 8-hour work day, you should get 5 and a half hours of focussed work done!

You’ll also feel more relaxed as you are now in control of time as opposed to time controlling you.
